AMERICAN BOARD OF VETERINARY TOXICOLOGY
Established in 1967, the ABVT is one of 22 veterinary specialty organization recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association. It was the first professional organization to provide certification in the field of toxicology. As a non-profit educational organization, the board administers a specialty certification examination to qualified veterinarians. Our credentialing process ensures that animal and human lives will be protected by veterinarians with expertise in veterinary toxicology.
Congratulations to Dr. Stephen B. Hooser, the 2026 ABVT Service Award winner! A Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology since 1989 and a Professor of Veterinary Toxicology at Purdue University, Dr. Hooser has shaped the field for more than four decades through research, leadership, and the mentoring of generations of veterinary students. He has served as President of ABVT, President of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD), Toxicology Section Editor of the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation (JVDI), and reached tens of millions with his pet-safety videos on toxic plants and mushrooms. His scholarship, generosity, and lifelong commitment to service make him a fitting recipient of this year's award. More details.
